Family Train – Whanganui to Hawera

Family Train – Whanganui to Hawera

Date: 01/11/15
Time: 9:40 am - 11:30 am
Location: Eastown Railway Freight Centre

Travel by Train from Whanganui to Hawera one way.
Your grandchildren or children may never have been on a train but you may remember the daylight expresses to New Plymouth many years ago.

Whether you are young or old this is your opportunity for a little nostalgia.  Sit back in our 1930’s carriages and enjoyed the ride to Whanganui.  Get Dad, Mum or Uncle to follow the train up to Hawera in the car, then they can take you home, they can stop and waive whenever they can catch up.

The train will depart from Eastown and then head straight across the Whanganui River, and up the Westmere bank which is some of the steepest railway in New Zealand.   The train descends into Kai Iwi and then up another steep hill to Maxwell.   Through Waverley and then travel up the Patea river through Patea and the derelict old wharf  and then over the Patea river bridge.

The train trip will stop at  Hawera Railway Station, 12 Glover Rd – Hawera.  You will need to organise transport to get home.
