Family Train – Hawera to Whanganui

Family Train – Hawera to Whanganui

Date: 01/11/15
Time: 3:35 pm - 5:45 pm
Location: Hawera Railway Station

Travel by Train from Hawera to Whanganui one way.
Your grandchildren or children may never have been on a train but you may remember the daylight expresses to New Plymouth many years ago.

Whether you are young or old this is your opportunity for a little nostalgia.  Sit back in our 1930’s carriages and enjoyed the ride to Whanganui.  Get Dad, Mum or Uncle to follow the train down to Whanganui in the car, then they can take you home, they can stop and waive whenever they can catch up.

The train will head south past the Fonterra Dairy Factory, through Waverley, and towards Patea.  The train cross the Patea River then runs along side the river down towards to see past the old derelict wharf.  After Kai Iwi the train will grunt up the very steep hill to Westmere and slowly down into Whanganui and across the Whanganui River to Eastown.

The train trip will stop at East Town Freight Yard, 46 Eastown Rd, Whanganui.  You will need to organise transport to get home.
