The New Plymouth Express 2021

The New Plymouth Express 2021

Date: 13/11/21
Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 pm
Location: Feilding Railway Station

This is an excursion for the railway enthusiast.  A full day’s travel to one of New Zealand’s bigger cities – New Plymouth.

Moving through the Rangitikei we climb up the Westmere Bank just after leaving Whanganui and enter the special part of New Zealand known these days as the NAKI.

We head on and pass Fonterra’s milk plant at Whararoa, through Hawera and on to Stratford.  By now the mighty shape of Mt Taranaki is before you and on the right side of your carriage the distant slopes of Mt Ruapehu.  Both mountains glisten in the midday sun with the snowfalls of winter still clearly visible.

We moved on the through the small dairy towns of Eltham, Stratford and Inglewood and then swing left for our approach to New Plymouth.
The “Express” will enter New Plymouth and go right into the downtown area where there will be a two hour break.

There is no railway platforms at Eastown or New Plymouth and access will be by temporary steps or hoist onto the railway lines.

You can go to the Downtown Shopping Complex or visit the famous Len Lye exhibition which is over the road from where we will stop.

Fully refreshed you will re-board the train at 4.00pm for your return journey to Feilding.  This will be a true day’s outing for those who enjoy rail travel in our beautiful country.
