A Day in Taranaki 2022
|Time:||8:00 am - 9:10 pm|
|Location:||Feilding Railway Station|
This is an excursion for the railway enthusiast. A full day’s travel to one of New Zealand’s bigger cities – New Plymouth.
After travelling through the Rangitikei and pickup up passengers in Marton and Whanganui Eastown we climb up the Westmere Bank just after leaving Whanganui and enter the special part of New Zealand known these days as the NAKI.
We head on and pass Fonterra’s milk plant at Whararoa, through Hawera and on to Stratford. Hopefully the mighty shape of Mt Taranaki is before you and on the right side of your carriage the distant slopes of Mt Ruapehu. Both mountains glisten in the midday sun with the snowfalls of winter still clearly visible on a good day.
We move on through the small dairy towns of Eltham, Stratford and Inglewood and then swing left for our approach to New Plymouth.
The train will enter New Plymouth and go right into the downtown area where there will be a two hour break.
There is no railway platforms at Eastown or New Plymouth so please beware when disembarking and loading is by temporary steps or hoist onto the railway lines.
You can go to the Downtown Shopping Complex or visit the famous Len Lye exhibition which is over the road from where we stop.
